Thoughts for the Month

January

This is the first month of a new year. It is a time when many people make ‘New Year Resolutions,’ promising to eat less, exercise more or whatever it may be.  Resolutions are so often unrealistic; they are hard to keep because they are things we have struggled with for so long, so sadly, many of them are broken long before this month is even half way through.

It is winter, a season some folk love (snuggling up in front of an open fire, reading the books there was not time to read in the summer, catching up on films and programmes that have been missed.) Others hate it because the days are short and the hours of darkness are long and little time can be spent outside doing things.

At the beginning of a new year what could or should we be doing?

In Ephesians Chapter 4 we read ‘… be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and put on the new nature, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.’

So, how about ‘renewal’ – renewing our promises to God that we will try to follow more closely in His Son’s footsteps. God the Father knows our frailty. He knows that we will stray from the correct pathway; that so often we will fall by the wayside, but He also forgives us.This month is an ideal time to ‘renew a right spirit within us.’
