Thoughts for the Month
AugustThis is a month always linked to holidays, a time to get away from the exhausting and often hum-drum work days, and have a rest. That depends, of course, on what sort of holiday you choose, as many people come back more tired than when they went!Rest – an important part of our lives as without it we cannot function properly and will burn out. In Revelation Chapter 14 we read, ‘And I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in in the Lord henceforth.” “Blessed indeed,” says the Spirit, “that they may rest from their labours, for their deeds follow them.” Here we have a promise of eternal rest; yes we have to labour during our lifetime; but if we follow the Lord and live our lives following His pathway, we have that promise. It is not always easy to live our lives as we should; we get tired and that makes us irritable, tactless, thoughtless and unkind. So rest is an important part of our lives. It may be that we need to get enough sleep; go for a walk each day to let the brain switch off; read a book; spend time with friends and loved ones; spend time reading the bible and talking to God; something that is completely different from our daily work. Jesus promised, ‘Come to me, all who labour and are heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.’ What a promise. |
