Thoughts for the Month

This is the month so often synonymous with showers; no day can be guaranteed to stay fine. So, it is with life, isn’t it? We can never be sure that life will always go smoothly.

It is interesting that there is just one reference to ‘showers’ in the New Testament - in the Gospel of Luke - and three in the Old Testament, two in the Psalms and one in Ezekial.

In the Gospel of Luke Chapter 12 we read, ‘When you see a cloud rising in the west, you say at once, “A shower is coming;” and so it happens.’

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if life could be that simple? If only a sign could appear to warn us of unsettled happenings ahead.

Unfortunately, there is no fool-proof sign that can prepare us for all life’s turbulence. Often things happen that we are not expecting, for which we are unprepared. Illness, accidents, natural disasters, the list is endless. It is at such times that we often ask, ‘Why?’.

We all trust that God will keep us, and those we love, safe. Sadly, this does not always seem to happen. Life is not always easy and God has never promised that it will be. Sometimes, we have to face great misery. We lose those who mean the most to us; we have to watch loved ones go through great suffering; we are involved in an accident that changes our lives completely and life may not seem worth living.

Remember - you are never alone. At the blackest time, Christ will carry you in His loving arms.
