St Clement Church November 2017.
On the 5th December, our service was taken by Rev Diane and Reader Liz, during which Liz gave a very informative talk on the progress of the ongoing restoration of our lovely old church, which is a grade one listed building, giving graphic details of the new heating system now installed, and the delay in the reroofing programme due to the roosting bat colony. Mention was made of the financial help provided after extensive applications for the relevant grants, and thanks must be made to all of the church members who have worked so hard in this venture, including the contribution of the professional consultants employed in the work.
The congregation obviously appreciated this very worthwhile information and a lively discussion followed when the folk were enjoying the refreshments after the service.
During the week two memorial benches were installed in Bell Close and the churchyard itself by Ken and Terry. The very attractive seats are in memory of the late Joy Burnell and Brian Hartnell, both of whom were dearly loved family members.
The Remembrance Service was held in the beautifully decorated church on Sunday 12th November. Rev Diane gave a heart wrenching but inspiring sermon, and special thanks must go to the Bellringing team who rang the muffled bells; Martin and the Choir for their beautiful singing and Ben Lynch, the trumpeter, who played such a wonderful tribute to the fallen. Thanks also to Jill who led the nostalgic singsong whilst the church members enjoyed the refreshments after the service.
